As the golfing season heads into late summer the fabulous weather seems to have come to an end but Dun Whinny golfers continue to turn out in good numbers for club competitions and matches.
The end of June saw the finals of the Club Championship and Millennium Trophy. In two close matches Eddie Gibson beat George Stubbs to become Club Champion and Frank Johnson overcame Ian Milton to claim the Millennium Trophy.
The following weekend was the Senior’s Trophy which was won by Stewart Lockhart with a net score of 69, just edging out Aidan O’Carroll on count back.
Early July saw the completion of the Strokeplay Cup which went to Club Captain Andy Lothian with a net aggregate of 220 shots, five ahead of Hon Sec Mike Page, who just pipped Stewart Lockhart by one shot.
Other notable mid to late season winners have been Mike Collier, showing a welcome return to form, (Summer meeting), Ken Marshall (President’s Platter) Peter Yarwood (Roy Nicolson Salver), Robin Christie (Jack Adams Trophy), David McLeod (D F Darroch Cup) ands Stewart Lockhart consolidating on a fine season with a win in the August Monthly Medal.
There have been two further club matches against Panmure at home which resulted in a comfortable win by 6 matches to 2 and Blairgowrie away, which unfortunately we lost by 5.5 to 2.5.
We still have plenty of golf remaining this year with the 36 hole Gordon Lockhart this coming Saturday (18 August), the Princes Pot, the dreaded Blue Tees Competition, the Captain’s Prize and the Medal Final, to name but a few. We also have two remaining club matches against Bruntsfield and The Dukes.
Finally, a word of congratulations to Rory Bain, one of the Gleneagles Foundation students who recently won the Angus County Boys Match Play Championship played at Letham Grange. Many of you have played with Rory during club competitions this year. He is pictured here with his Trophy. Well done Rory!
