‘Abandon’ take the stage

Saturday 3 November saw the annual club dinner dance and awards held in the spectacular setting of Gleneagles Hotel. After a champagne reception members and their guests were piped through to the ballroom by the Captain’s son Andrew Lothian where they were treated to another amazing dance display from the Dance Dreams Theatre School kindly arranged by club member Tony Curley and Bonnie and Ashleigh Barr.

Captain Andy Lothian then welcomed members and their guests and reflected on the special qualities of Dun Whinny – a club with great values and a warm welcome to all.

After a superb four course meal Club Secretary Mike Page started the awards ceremony which included a special prize for Rory Bain who, as a Gleneagles Academy Foundation member, has played in many of the club’s events this year with great success.

Club Captain Andy Lothian lifted four prizes including the club singles knock out trophy and major prizes also went to Tony Curley (retaining the Duncrub Trophy) and Frank Johnson (Millennium and Championship Cup).

Other winners on the night were Tom Fleming, Andy Barton, Paul Kelly, David McCutcheon, Mike Collier, Jim Crawford, David McLeod, Peter Yarwood, Tony Moran, Ken Marshall and Mike Page.

Finally the Club Champion Eddie Gibson was presented with the Scratch Trophy and graciously  expressed his thanks to this opponents in the finals and the council and club.

At this point Abandon took the stage with an ideal selection of the modern and old favourites and everyone danced until midnight at which point the sensible ones went home to bed and the rest headed for the bar!
