A great turnout on the Queens course saw 27 golfers competing for the highly prized J D Penny Shield on Saturday, the first of the season’s trophies. Unfortunately the weather was not kind and increasingly persistent rain hampered everyone, particularly the later starters.
Nevertheless some good golf was played and the winner was Rory Bain with a nett score of 67 (gross 72), just pipping Mike Page (68-73) and Tony Moran (68-71). Well done Rory.
With strong early season turnouts members are encouraged to get their names down for competitions in good time. Next week sees the first of the Monthly Medals, to be played over the King’s Course from the white tees.
