Saturday 25 May saw the members of Dun Whinny entertaining their guests in the traditional Jubilee Invitation Day. At stake was the Jubilee Trophy and an impressive range of prizes, largely alcoholic (!) kindly donated by club members.
The action got underway at 11.00 with a shotgun start on the PGA Centenary course, making use of the impressive new Gleneagles buggies.
Although the weather was not especially kind it was an excellent day’s golf and when everyone returned to the Dormy the Auchterarder 70 bar was made available for exclusive use and drinks were followed by an excellent 2 course meal.
Prize giving revealed mixed fortunes! No fewer than 11 competitors managed Magic 2’s and there were prizes for 4 nearest pins and 2 long drives.
There were enough prizes to be able to award 1st to 7th place in the main event, which was a stableford better ball format.
Father and son combo Stewart and Darren Lockhart came third with 41 points, Andy Carswell and his guest Ross Kane were second with 42 points but the clear winners on 45 points were Peter Yarwood and guest Gary Denholm.
Following this the live music started and the party went on until well beyond midnight.
All in all it was an excellent day, superbly supported by the excellent Gleneagles golf team, to whom the club is extremely appreciative.
