Blue Tee Challenge plus Yellow Tee Alternative. Kings Saturday July 27th.
The weather was perfect and the course was in superb condition for our annual trip back to the Blue Tees on the Kings and having a trophy to play for made it much more interesting. As you can see from the pictures some of the tee shots were slightly more intimidating than usual but that didn’t stop the Dun Whinny stalwarts.
Rob Crockart and David Mitchell set the pace with 34 points before defending champion David Logie moved the bar slightly higher with a gross 74 and 35 points despite a 7 at the 14th! Tariq made 31 points then Mark “Bridesmaid” Higham made the only two of the day at the 15th (no that’s not a typo) to get to 33 and beat his playing partners Rob Simpson and Iain Aitchison by a shot.
Playing in the group behind, Ken Marshall needed to par the last two holes to get to 36 points but failed miserably… however, Paul Lewis playing in the same group did manage to set what we think might be a Dun Whinny record starting with 9 straight 5’s and making 5 more on the back 9…..
A couple more “what could have been” rounds from Billy Z and Al Cantlay also came up short on 33 and it looked like David would win again until our Club Secretary Keith Stirling pipped him at the post with a magnificent 37 points to become the second name on the Challenge Trophy. Congratulations Keith!
Also well done to David for a great effort in defence of the trophy, his 10 points for second place moves him into second place in what is turning into a very close Order of Merit race.
In the yellow tee event there were also some excellent scores with Sandy Grants 37 points narrowly losing out to Nigel Gallier with 39 - well played gents. The leading scores from both events are below.
Next up, on Saturday August 2nd, we have our Summer Meeting on the Kings . Our Tee times for this are 7-8 and 9-10 so please let me know which section you would prefer to be in.
This Saturday we move back to the Blue Tees on the Kings to compete for the recently introduced Dun Whinny Challenge Trophy and for those who don’t fancy this we have arranged a more friendly game from the Yellow Tees. Both are stablefords so not as challenging as it could have been….. Both events will count towards your handicap but only the Blue Tee event will be eligible for Order of Merit points.
Enter on the app as usual (but please don’t enter both!) and the draws will appear on here later in the week.
