It’s almost spring… Time to Warm up!

Today’s warm up event on the Queens certainly lived up to its billing as it was indeed quite warm. The start was delayed due to frost but once we got going the 24 players who showed up enjoyed glorious, almost Spring like weather. The greens were a little on the tricky side after the winter maintenance but hopefully we will reap the benefits later in the season. It certainly made attempting to hole the two footers we had been used to being given for the past four months more interesting than it should have been!

Although this was a non counting event we did have an incentive to play well as Captain Mike Page had put up 3 bottles of “reasonable” quality wine as prizes. Unfortunately I wont get to sample them but I am guessing they wont be a cheap bottle of Merlot from Aldi. Inspired by this some excellent golf was played with Alan Black leading the way with 37 points, while playing with Mike and our newest member, David Mitchell (aka “reserved” in the draw) in the first group.

This score was matched by Queens specialists Douglas Hamilton and Sandy Grant who were paired together in the second fourball. David Logie made a valiant late charge with three birdies in a row after losing a ball on the 13th but came up just short with 35 points. The only people left who stood a chance of beating this were Iain Aitchison and playing partner Allister Wallace. Allister set a new club record for the most 6’s in a row (8) but came up short, matching David’s 35 points. Iain however obviously fancied the best of the bottles of wine and got to 38 points before making a 7 at the last to make it look harder than it was. He did nominate a General Play score so it will affect his handicap. Well played Iain.

Next up we have our annual Captain vs Vice Captain match on the Queens this Saturday, Match 12th. Please enter on the app before Thursday.
Leading scores are below together with a picture of where David Logie’s tee shot finished at the 4th, sorry it’s a bit grainy but Ewan and myself were 70 yards further down the fairway so it was difficult to get a clear picture
