Our 2024 Season Starts NOW!
The Warm Up events are over and it’s time to play for some Silverware, or Shields and other stuff. Here is a list of what is coming up in April. There is at least one event on each course and you can enter them all via the Scottish Golf App right now. If you haven’t already done so please remember to enter the Singles and Foursomes Knockouts before the end of this week - the draws for these will be made and published in the Competitions section on the Dun Whinny website this Sunday.
Saturday March 30th - JD Penny Shield. This is a Medal from the yellow tees on Queens so shouldn’t be too testing…. preferred lies will remain but gimmies are gone so get prepared to face some nasty one footers!
Saturday April 6th - a stableford from the Yellow Tees on the PGA. Don’t worry if we don’t get any rain beforehand as the new intelligent irrigation system will provide the course with water whenever it is required - let’s hope it is required soon!
Saturday April 13th - we stay on the PGA Yellow for Round One of the Princes Pot - the second round is on May 4th (aka Star Wars Day) and the best combined stableford score over the two rounds wins the Pot.
Saturday April 20th - this will be an emotional occasion as we play a Par Competition over the Queens with the winner receiving the Crawford Rosebowl. This is our most recent trophy and was kindly donated to the club by Jim Crawford around this time last year.
Saturday April 27th - we take to the Kings (White Tees) for the first of our Monthly Medals. The best Nett and Gross scores in these receive a Dun Whinny whisky glass and the rumours that you can buy one on ebay from David Logie are untrue.
Wednesday May 1st - our first midweek event is the Peter Miller Trophy. This is awarded to the best Nett score over the White Tees on the Queens using only 5 clubs. You can play in this during our late afternoon club times or you can book your own time and play at any time during the day.
and finally, the season long Order of Merit will commence with the JD Penny this Sunday. The first seven places in all of our competition receive points as follows: 15, 10, 5,4,3,2,1. The person who accumulates the most points during the season wins the Trophy. You can follow the progress of this via the Competitions section of the website.
If you are not sure about anything to do with our competitions, app, website etc then hopefully this article will answer any questions you might have. If it doesn’t then feel free to contact me or any of the other Council members who will be happy to help.
Here’s to yet another enjoyable season of golf at Gleneagles and hopefully everyone will compete for a trophy at some stage. Good Luck. Ken.
