Sad News

Gentlemen

It is with profound sadness that I report the sudden death in Rome this weekend of Jim Crawford.

Jim joined Dun Whinny in 1984 and has been a staunch advocate of the club over these 40 years playing in most competitions, supporting the club in our matches and our social events.  He also played every Sunday morning and will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing Jim.

His final communication with the club, when he sent his apologies for Friday’s AGM due to travelling to Rome, was:

“I am sorry that I will be unable to attend the AGM this year and wish you and the Club every success for 2024.  I am very proud to be a member of the most distinguished and exceedingly well organised golf club at Gleneagles.”

We shall all miss Jim whether playing with him or regaling a few stories over a pint of A70 in the Dormy.  Rest in peace Jim.

Jim very kindly donated a wonderful trophy to the club last year - The Crawford Rosebowl - for our Par Competition and it will be with added poignancy when we compete for this later in the year.

Our sympathy and condolences go to Jim’s wife, Anne, his children and grandchildren at this sad time.
