Match Report:
Secretaries Salvers
On Sunday 08 September we held the annual mixed foursomes competition over the Queens course for the Secretaries Salvers.
Teams were made from one Dun Whinny Member and one Dunbracken Member.
A foggy start to the day did not delay the teams from teeing off at 14:00 albeit under an uncertain sky. Early drama saw one team member going awol at the first tee, however after a spell of mild panic all players made they’re way out on the course. (some even manged not to fall out on the first tee!)
Despite the low number of entries this year, a good level of competition and scoring ensued.
First out of the blocks, and the Bookies favourites after they’re triumph in the Jubilee, were Tony & Lucy Moran who carded a fine 29 points. Great efforts from Kenny & Jude MacDonald followed closely by Billy Z Mcneil & Jane Black, both with scores of 28 points.
We now had three teams to return scores, all three returning cards with 30 points! Defending Champion Mike (my phone seems to have crashed) Cantlay and new partner Yuwaree Brown were, however, sent tumbling to third place (after all the IT specialists present advised he switch his phone off and back on again) only to find they;re points adjusted to 29!
Leaving us with Robert & Nancy McLeary, together with Alan Tarney & Terri Croft sitting on 30 points. By now you will be on the edge of your seats, so without further waffle, the Champions of this years Secretaries Salvers are......
Alan Tarney & Terri Croft.
Well done and we are looking for a stern defence next year.
On the afternoon of Sunday September 8th we play our annual mixed foursomes event on the Queens where a Dun Whinny member is teamed up with a Dunbracken member to compete for the Secretaries Salvers. This is followed by dinner and prize giving in the Dormy.
If you would like to play then please enter via the app or let Iain Aitchison know. Please also let him know if you have arranged your own partner or would like to be teamed up. The draw will appear here in the week prior to the event.
Trophy History: Secretary’s Salvers first awarded in 1993. At a Council Meeting in March 1983 the Secretary put forward a proposal for a Mixed Foursome knock-out competition (subsequently changed to a one round stableford) with pairings being drawn from Dun Whinny and Dunbracken. Ron MacKelvie, Secretary, indicated that he along with his wife, Aileen, the then Secretary of Dunbracken would present a trophy for this competition in the form of a pair of silver plated salvers to be called the Secretary’s Salvers. The competition was to be played over the Queens course. Strokes were to be taken from the gent’s card and ladies were to drive on the odd numbered holes
