Summer Meeting. Kings Saturday August 3rd.
Our Summer Meeting over the Kings this morning took place in conditions that were actually quite summery. The course was in great condition although whoever chose the pin positions had obviously had a heavy night as some had almost missed the greens….. Gary Player was in town and seemed to meet everyone except me, even Mrs Marshall had a chat with him at the halfway hut.
In the gross section the early pace was set by David McColgan with a 76. James Hardy was out in two under par 33 but faltered on the back nine to shoot 74 before Jon Cooper pipped them all with a solid 73.
The handicap section also saw a great early score with Daley Smith shooting 46, including an 8 on the front 9 and his brother taking over to shoot 38 on the back for a combined nett 66. James Hardy did it the other way around but ended up one shot worse. Their better ball score would have been interesting…. A late charge by David Mitchell managed to match Daley’s nett 66 but lost out on countback probably regretting his 7 at the 12th…..
Also worth a mention are Scott Williamson’s nett 68 and a 69 from Paul Lewis which should take his handicap below 10 for the first time - does 9.8 make him a single figure handicap….? opinions in the bar afterwards were divided.
Well done to Jon and Daley, they don’t win anything but their score today counts together with their best other score in a Meeting to put them in with a great chance of a trophy.
Next up we have our Iron Man Challenge. The Gordon Lockhart Trophy is awared to the best aggregate Nett score in a 36 hole competition over the Kings and Queens next Saturday. Enter on the app as usual.
This coming Saturday we play our Summer Meeting Medal from the White Tees on the Kings. We have split tee times this week, 7-8am and 9-10am, so if you have a strong preference for a particular section then drop me a line.
As you will all know by now the best 2 from 3 gross and nett scores in the Spring, Summer and Autumn Meetings win one of our more sought after trophies.
Enter via the app as usual and the draw will appear here later in the week.
