Dukes GC vs Dun Whinny GC
Sunday 13th October
A beautiful crisp day was a pleasant surprise for the final team match of the 2024 season at the Dukes Course, St Andrews. The team received a warm if slightly odd welcome to the Clubhouse as we were ushered into the Captain’s room (adorned by pictures of past Captains of the Club including our very own David Watt) for our bacon rolls and coffee. The Lounge was being set up for a presentation ceremony for a 42 strong party of Japanese golfers already out on the course. With two television sets and tables overflowing with prizes this was to be no ordinary prize giving!
Of to the course and the first pair out David Logie and Mike Page were always behind but with a great finish from Mike there was a chance of a half on the final green only for the Dukes Captain to hole from 20ft to hold onto their 1 up advantage.
Our second pairing of Colin Campbell and David Devine earned a hard-fought tie on the last thanks to a terrific approach shot from Colin.
The Dukes Captain Dave seemed quite hopeful as he tucked into his tea… Captain Dave on the Dun Whinny side not so much! However, as each of the final pairs battled past the prize presentation the news kept getting better and better for Dun Whinny. Four wins out of four to make the final result a 4.5 - 1.5 win. And they weren’t just small margin wins! Al Cantlay and Paul Kelly won 3&2, Alistair Wallace and Steven Yule won 5&4, David Watt and Iain Aitchison won 3&2 and Bill Sexton and Kevin Beattie won 5&3. A bit of humping by any measure.
Well played gentlemen a terrific finish to the match and the 2024 season.
David Logie
Captain for the day.
