Result: Dun Whinny vs Whitemuir
On a glorious early autumn evening on 12th September the two clubs met for only their second match in a reignited tie.
With great thanks to the organisers, Iain for Dun Whinny and Alison and Steven for Whitemuir, the event took place after two rescheduled dates due to previous incredibly damp conditions.
Last year, Whitemuir 'hosted' and so this year Dun Whinny were deemed to be inviting the best that Whitemuir could offer and frankly with the likes of David Blackadder (scratch) and Seb Crabtree (plus two) they were taking matters seriously and nerves were jangling in our camp.
In 2023, the match was tied at 3 points each, so there was much to play for as we set-off - three matches on Kings with a further three concurrently on Queens.
With the aid of Iain, one putt, Aitchison, we made a fairly easy start on Queens. The first match on Kings resulted in a well fought half and then on each course the Dun Whinny players took control of the respective second matches: 3.5 to 0.5 after four and everything was looking rather comfortable.
However, the 'guests' were victorious after a tight squeeze on the 3rd match on Kings and their 'wild card' player, Olivia O'Leary (playing with the aforementioned plus two player, but making good use of her own 24 handicap) romped in with and easy win for Whitemuir in the final group on Queens.
Phew. We made it: a victory of 3.5 versus 2.5 followed by the now standard fare of pizza, beers and some good craic.
Well done to all who played for Dun Whinny and good luck in next years 'away' tie.
