Muirfield Salver - Dundonald Links
On Saturday, August 31st, 36 members gathered at Dundonald Links for our annual away outing, competing for the prestigious Muirfield Salver.
Fortune smiled on us with ideal weather conditions—clear skies, minimal wind, and a pleasant temperature of 21 degrees.
The spotlight was on Alan Black, who aimed to make history by winning the competition for a third consecutive year. However, Alan's streak would come to an end, as he struggled to find the same form that he has had in recent years, leaving the field open for a new champion to emerge.
Early in the competition, Tony Moran, the 2024 Jubilee winner, set the pace with a solid score of 34 points. His score was later matched by Rob Simpson and Ken Marshall, though it was only enough for the three to share in 4th place.
Our former Captain, David McLeod, claimed third place with 35 points. Unfortunately, a challenging final hole prevented him from tying for second place, but it was still a commendable performance.
The runner-up was our club Treasurer, Aidan O’Carroll, who played consistently throughout the day. Aidan earned points on every hole, finishing with 20 points on the back 9 and 17 on the front 9, for a total of 37 points.
However, the day belonged to Kevin Dickson, who delivered one of the most remarkable rounds of the season. Kevin scored an incredible 26 points on the front 9, and despite a stumble on the 10th hole, he added 16 more points over the final 8 holes, securing a decisive victory with an overall score of 42 points.
Congratulations to Kevin on his well-deserved win, and thank you to everyone who contributed to making the day so enjoyable.
