Roy Nicolson Salver. Stableford Queens Yellow Tees. Saturday August 24th.
Report by David Mitchell: In the run up to the competition Eric Lambert remarkably likened himself to another Old Master - Michelangelo! and was also typically ebullient about his report on last year’s RNS. He was also in the first group off this morning.
Funnily enough, there is actually a strong link with today’s event to Michelangelo.
Between 1508 and 1512, he painted ‘The Deluge’ and ‘The Flood’ so the following selection of photos seems very apt.
These horrendous conditions hit the first groups early on and the course was very close to being unplayable around the 6th and 7th especially, with several new water features emerging.
That being said, everyone soldiered on. Unfortunately for Billy McNeill, he had no all-weather gloves and his club left his hands and ended up down the fairway - thankfully missing his playing partners.
Andy McGill managed to keep a grip of his clubs, at least temporarily, birdieing 7 and then holing his second shot for eagle on 8.
Everyone was striving to find the pot of golf gold at the end of two rainbows which graced the skies above the course.
Scott Williamson held the clubhouse lead with 35 points for some time, with Ian Fisher, David Logie, Paul Lewis, Paul Wadsworth and Andy McGill all within two points of him. Mark Nicolson, son of Roy, scored a very creditable 30 points, however after finishing as the runner-up last season and knocking on the door of the mayor’s office on numerous times this season, Mark Higham prevailed, just pipping Scott.
Many congratulations Mark and indeed well done to each and every member who made it to the end, regardless of their score. Don’t we just love summer golf in Scotland!
This Saturday we play for the Roy Nicolson Salver from the Yellow Tees on the Queens. This is one of our most popular events and as of today (Monday) we already have 39 entries! We still have room for a few more so if you fancy a game please enter on the app right now. The draw will appear here later in the week so please let me have any special requests asap.
We also have a special guest reporter for the day. David Mitchell has kindly volunteered so please send any relevant stories, pictures etc to him after (or during) your round. Hopefully he can match Eric’s efforts from last year Roy Nicolson Salver Result and Report by Eric. — Dun Whinny Golf Club
