Club Championship & Millenium Trophy

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

The sun greeted George Stubbs and David McColgan as they teed off at 7:20 this morning for the final of the Club Championship.  Despite a challenging south-easterly wind both George and David found fairways and greens on almost every hole, with putting proving the difference between them.  George got ahead on the 1st and doubled his lead with a brilliant birdie at the 4th after hitting his second shot to five feet.  George played bogey-free golf, and so made it very difficult for David, and he was two under par when closing out the match, played in true Dun Whinny spirit, on the 14th green.

As well as his good play this morning, George must also be congratulated for his longevity - he first won the Club Championship 29 years ago, when he managed a hat-trick of wins, and so returns to the winners circle after an interval of almost thirty years.

MILLENNIUM TROPHY

The Millennium Trophy final between David Mitchell and Aidan O'Carroll, played in great spirit, saw David split the fairways with some great driving, and putting like a demon. With Aidan struggling for consistency David was 3 up at the turn. The game was more evenly fought over the next few holes but David maintained a steady performance and took the 16th hole to win 3&2. A fine performance overall from a worthy winner.

Congratulations to all sixteen members who made it to the knockout stages.  You can see how they fared on the attached draw sheet.
