2025 Captain/Pro Challenge and other Dun Whinny News
Good morning,
I am delighted to confirm the continuation of the very popular Pro/Captain Challenge Series in 2025.
For the benefit of new members, this series has been running for a few years and comprises a monthly fourball better ball match between Andrew Jowett (Gleneagles Director of Golf) and the Captain, against two challengers from the club membership. Strokes are taken in accordance with normal match play rules, and AJ plays off scratch.
The purpose of the series is to have fun and to raise a modest amount for charity. The losing pair pays £25 (or more if they wish!), and I ask that donations be made directly to the chosen charity so that Gift Aid may be added where applicable. I have chosen Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) as the charity to receive the funds. The eagle-eyed among you will note that this is the same charity Frank selected in 2024, but it is also a cause close to my own heart. Having helped with a fundraiser last year, I was invited to visit Rachel House in Kinross and was able to see the fantastic support that CHAS provides for sick children and their families.
The dates and details for 2025 are as follows. With the exception of the game this month, which takes place on a Wednesday, these matches are all on Sunday mornings. I have also avoided clashes with our club matches, many of which also fall on Sundays:
Wednesday 23rd April – 9am – PGA
Sunday 18th May – 8am – PGA
Sunday 22nd June – 7:50am – Queens (Clash with Champ Finals! New date TBC)
Sunday 6th July – 8am – Kings
Sunday 10th August – 8am – Queens
Sunday 21st September – 8am – Kings
Sunday 5th October – 8am – Kings
If you would like to participate, please find a partner and let me know which date(s) your pairing can make. Please also consider asking one of our newer members to form a pairing.
If previous years are anything to go by, I anticipate high demand, so please understand it may not be possible to accommodate everyone. The more dates you offer, the better your chance of getting a match.
I will publish the draw once entries are confirmed. Please send me your pairings and availability for the Sunday events by Friday 18th April. If you wish to feature in the Wednesday 23rd April match, please confirm by Wednesday 9th April. I will respond promptly about the opening match, given it takes place this month.
Club Matches
In other news, Iain Aitchison is still looking for more replies from those interested in representing the club in matches. If you have not yet responded to his request in my email dated Tuesday 11th March, please do so as soon as possible.
Summer Foursomes & Singles Match Play
The deadline for requesting entry into the summer foursomes and singles match play has now passed. However, Iain has said he will do his best to accommodate any late requests. Please email him directly at iain@dunwhinny.com by Friday 4th April, as the ability to enter via the app is no longer available.
Jubilee
The Jubilee application deadline is Monday 7th April. Please email Mike Cantlay on mike@dunwhinny.com at your earliest convenience if you would like to play. You can do this even if you have not yet confirmed your guests’ details.
Winter Competition Results
The results of the Winter Season Competitions are in and have been compiled by David Logie. Please look out for a news item being published on the website later today.
Best regards,
Daley
