Frequently Asked Questions:

FAQ’s

1.      Where can I find Competitions and how do I enter them?

Our fixture list can be found on the Dun Whinny website in the Competitions section. To enter a competition you need to use the Scottish Golf App. Look in the Events Tab, Select the event you want to enter then “purchase” an entry by clicking on the shopping basket at the top right then clicking Continue.

You should then get an email confirmation and the event will appear under the Dashboard – Bookings Tab - (Not Tee Bookings). To withdraw from an event Select it via the aforementioned Bookings Tab, Click View Registration Details then Cancel Registration. You can do this up until the draw has been published which is normally 2-3 days before the event.

If you need to withdraw (or enter) after the draw has been made you need to contact the event organiser so the draw can be amended. You might also want to let your playing partners or the starter know but they can’t take you out of the competition.

2.      Why is my score in a competition sometimes worse than shown on my app?

The current Rules of Golf, and therefore the calculation on the app, uses 95% of your exact Course handicap when you play in a competition, so your points or nett score will normally be slightly worse than the card on the app which uses 100% of your handicap. Your handicap is based on the card shown on the app.

3.      What should I do if my app stops working? Can someone else keep my score?

Only scores which are put into your scorecard on your device can be seen. Any scores which anyone else puts into their device can be used to check your score but are not visible to competition organisers. So, if you cannot complete your round via the app please either complete and send a paper scorecard or send a screenshot of your scores from your or a playing partners phone to the competition organiser. The competition cannot be completed until all cards are accounted for so please do this immediately after your round.

4.      Where can I see the draw or my Tee Time in a Competition?

The draw is normally produced 2-3 days before the event and is published on the Dun Whinny website under the News section. At the moment we are not able to view the draw via the app but it is on there so hopefully we will be able to view it there at some stage.

As a short term measure we are using the Tee Booking facility on the app to inform everyone of their Tee Time and it should generate an email. This resource is used by some golf clubs who own their course to allow their members to book tee times but as we don’t have our own course any Bookings via this system on the “Dun Whinny” golf course are only for your reference. Cancelling a Tee Booking does not remove you from the competition, you need to do this as described in section 1 above.

5.      Where can I see the results of competitions?

They will be on the Dun Whinny website under the relevant News article and you can also view more detail, including everyone’s hole by hole scores on the Scottish Golf website and the app. On the app go to the … tab, click on My Competitions then select which to view. You can toggle between types (eg Gross or Nett) by clicking and changing this.

6.      Where can I see the Match Play draws and the Order of Merit?

These can be seen by clicking the relevant section in the Competitions section of the Dun Whinny Website.

7.      Where can I see who has been selected for a Club Match?

Go to the Club Matches tab on the website then click on the Match Selections button. If you have been selected as a player or a reserve and can no longer make the match please let the Match Secretary know as soon as possible. Please also let them know if you are not on the list but would like to be a reserve for a particular match.
