October Golf Update

So its October already, Autumn is here, but there is still golf to be played and plenty of other stuff to look forward to:

This Saturday, October 7th, is our Medal Final on the Kings. Anyone can play (enter via the app as usual) but only those who have qualified can win a prize. Medal Final October 7th Kings. White Tees. — Dun Whinny Golf Club

Saturday 14th is your last chance to win an individual trophy, the DF Darroch is a stableford played from the white tees on the Queens.

The following Saturday, October 21st, is also on the Queens but yellow tees this time. It’s a Four Ball Better Ball event and the McKelvie Trophy is up for grabs. You can enter via the app and partners are drawn at random so you might get someone really good and not even have to play very well to win half a trophy.

Our last event of the season is a stableford on the Kings on October 28th. You can enter all of the above on the app. After this the clocks change (Oct 29th), witches fly around (Oct 31st), we have our Dinner Dance and Prizegiving (Nov 4th) and celebrate not blowing up parliament (Nov 5th) so lots to keep us occupied. We also have our winter season to look forward to, more about this shortly.

Knockout Results: The finals of both of our summer Matchplay events were played in the past week. Colin Campbell defeated David Logie in the singles and Tony Moran and Mike Collier beat Colin and Paul Lewis, in the foursomes. Well done to all of them and an extra well done to Colin for getting to both finals. You can see all of the results plus the incredibly close race for this years Order of Merit in the Competitions Section of the website. Competitions — Dun Whinny Golf Club

In other news we had our trophies valued for insurance purposes last week. Gordon Foster, who is the silver expert on the Antiques Roadshow, was kind enough to do this for us and also had time to partner me in a match against Daley and David Logie around the Kings afterwards. David shot a gross 68, Daley improved it by 7 but we only lost on the last so an amazing game! All of our trophies are in the picture below so choose one you like and try to win it next year.

Winter Season: our winter season starts on November 4th, the same day as the Dinner Dance. There are several things to play in:

The Winter Fourball Matchplay: if you fancy entering this please let me know. You can choose your own partner or I can pair you up, the only “rule” is that you shouldn’t play with the same person as you played with last year, unless you win it. Please get your entries in before the end of this month.

Winter Eclectics on the Kings and Queens (no PGA this year as it will be closed for 5 months!). To enter these just let David Logie know that you would like to play and he will include you.

Winter Strokeplay Championship: best 4 stableford scores, max 2 from any course, wins the trophy, and finally the best stableford score over the Winter on any course wins the Tom Brown Tankard. All cards for the winter events should be emailed to David, we don’t plan to use the app for any of these but you can of course use the app to continue to put in General Play scores if you wish and we might even hold a surprise competition or two at some stage…..
