DF Darroch Trophy
The DF Darroch trophy was played on the Queens this morning in glorious autumn sunshine. It was a bit chilly to start with but it warmed up as we played and with the course in great condition some good scores were expected.
33 points from the Order of Merit leader Iain Aitchison was never going to win today but it does give him a lead going into the final round of the Order of Merit in two weeks time. David McLeod and Rob Simpson managed 34 points and Christian Stewart posted 36 late on but no-one came close to matching the 39 points that Ken Swa managed and he won by 3 shots. It could have been even more but he finished with two double bogeys to give everyone else a chance…. Well played Ken.
Next Saturday we have our Four Ball Better Ball event, the McKelvie Trophy, also on the Queens. Partners are drawn at random so if you get a good one you might not even have to play well to win. David Logie is organising this one so stick your name down on the app and let him know if you have any problems.
Lastly we had a new 80 year old playing in our event today, see pic below. This is the second time this year this has happened, who can name the other one?
Saturday October 14th is the date for this years DF Darroch stableford from the white tees on the Queens. The weather looks promising and the draw is below. Our Tee times are 8am to 9.30 and if you would like to join in then please let me know.
History. The D F Darroch Trophy first awarded in 1985: D F Darroch was the Honorary Secretary of Dun Whinny for some eight years and had been Captain and on Council for many prior to his resignation in 1986. During this time listed among the prizes was the Stuart Drysdale Prize. Stuart was a long standing member of Dun Whinny and had presented a prize for the best Stableford score from medal tees over the Queens Course which was a very popular event. He was forced to resign due to continuing eyesight problems and Fraser Darroch agreed to donate a trophy to maintain the continuity of this event and also as a gesture when he retired as Secretary at the 1986 AGM
