Secretaries Salvers Result and Report.
A lovely afternoon with a threat of showers greeted the participants in this years Secretaries Salvers event on the Queens. Thankfully the weather held off and the 36mm (1 1/2 inches) of rain which was due came as we were eating our dinner in the Dormy.
The course was in great condition but some of the pins were clearly positioned with the rain in mind which made putting tricky. Most couples did well but there were three standout scores:
David Logie and Serena McIvor scored a nett 68 (37 pts) which was matched by Kenny and Jude MacDonald who was playing in her first proper competition having only recently got her handicap, well done to all of them.
The runaway winners however, with an amazing score of nett 65 (39 pts), including the 7 at the first which virtually guarantees a victory in a Dun Whinny event were Mike Cantlay and Fiona Montes pictured below with the trophies.
Prizes for nearest the pin and longest drive were also up for grabs and went as follows:
Nearest the PIn Ladies, 13th, Serena McIvor
Nearest the Pin Gents, 2nd, David Logie
Longest Drive Ladies, 3rd, Terri Croft
Longest Drive Gents, 18th, Craig Scott
Many thanks to Jennifer for helping me put some amazing teams together, thanks also to the golf team and the Dormy staff for looking after us and lastly a special thankyou to my glamorous assistant for the day, Craig. Both of our partners had to pull out at the last minute so Craig and I went out first as a two ball, we played some amazing golf, persuaded the 4 ball in front to let every one of our groups play through, had a chat with ex boxer Jim Watt and a couple of guys from Dunblane, made friends with the local wildlife and even had time to do a bit of spectating (Susan deserves a medal!). He also helped with the nearest the pins and longest drives coming back with photos of all the boards except the one from the 18th which he says he won….
Finally a big thanks to everyone who took part and we hope to see you all again next year. A few more photos from the day are below:
Update 10/9/23. Good Morning Everyone, just a quick reminder of the plan for today.
The Format is Mixed Foursomes Stroke Play with the Ladies driving the odd holes. As it’s a medal round you will need a score on every hole so please remember to hit a provisional if there is a chance your original ball might be lost.
Scoring will be via the Scottish Golf app and your scorecard along with your team handicap should already be in the Scorecard section of the app. We haven’t tried this before but I guess only one team member needs to input the scores for their team and their partners. A backup scorecard might be a good idea?
The draw is still as below except that Ann has injured her shoulder and can’t play. I will play anyway and if anyone knows of anyone who might be able to take her place then please let me know.
There will be a nearest the pin for men at the 2nd and ladies at the 13th and a longest drive for ladies at the 3rd and men at the 18th.
There is some rain forecast for early evening but hopefully we will finish in time to miss that and also catch the end of the rugby.
The Dinner and prize giving will be in the far end of the Dormy starting around 7pm. You can order whatever you would like from the menu but please make sure you pay for your own food and drink before you leave.
Above all have fun and enjoy the day. See you all soon.
Our annual mixed foursomes with Dunbracken takes place on the afternoon of September 10th on the Queens with a dinner and prize giving in the Dormy afterwards. The draw is below:
The format is medal foursomes with the ladies driving at the odd holes and we will be using the Scottish Golf app for scoring. There is an entry fee of £10 per team to cover the prizes and for the meal everyone should individually order and pay for whatever they would like to eat and drink.
History: The Secretary’s Salvers were first awarded in 1993. At a Council Meeting in March 1983 the Secretary put forward a proposal for a Mixed Foursome knock-out competition with pairings being drawn from Dun Whinny and Dunbracken. Ron MacKelvie, Secretary, indicated that he along with his wife, Aileen, currently the Secretary of Dunbracken would present a trophy for this competition in the form of a pair of silver plated salvers to be called the Secretary’s Salvers. The competition was to be played over the Queens course. Strokes were to be taken from the gent’s card and ladies were to drive on the odd numbered holes.
