Stableford - PGA Result
A bright but chilly start turned into a decent golfing day for our stableford on the PGA this morning. I am sure we have all been watching the Masters and I suspect the greenkeepers must also have been watching as they decided to give us Augusta speed greens forgetting that greens as fast as that also need to be smooth! To be fair they were pretty good for this time of year.
Fast greens didn’t stop Iain “Scotty” Aitchison though, obviously inspired by Mr Scheffler he proceeded to follow up last weeks victory on the Queens with an even more impressive gross 77 for 42 points leaving everyone trailing in his wake. Highlights included reaching most of the par 5’s in two and lipping out for eagle at the 16th. Not bad for an (ex) 11 handicapper 😊
Those inspired by the rest of the leaders in the Masters field included Andy Barton with 36 points, Paul Lewis with 37, Colin Campbell and Douglas Hamilton with 38 and Alistair Shand with 40 which would normally be enough to win. Well played and they will all receive points towards the player of the year, talking of which…..
Player of the year. Points are awarded in every one of our individual events as follows:
Winner 15 points, runner up 10 points, 3-7 get 5,4,3,2 and 1. Whoever gets the most points at the end of the season gets the trophy. The reason I am mentioning this now is that Iain almost won this last year and clearly intends to go one better this time and I thought everyone should know about it while they still have a chance.
Next Week we have a Par Competition on the Kings. This is a match play event where we play against the course, the course plays off scratch and we get our full handicap. The course doesn’t make any mistakes and never even gives us a putt so is quite difficult to beat and anyone who does so is in with a chance of winning. The person most up, or least down is the winner. There is no need to continue a hole once you have lost it so it should be quite a quick format…. scoring will be on the app although from memory the leader board might not work quite as it should! Regarding the app well done to virtually everyone today for getting it to work.
Finally a quick word about Pace of Play. Dun Whinny has many great traditions, not least is that we like to play reasonably quickly and hate to hold anyone up. Unfortunately we had one group last week and a separate one this week who took a bit longer than necessary resulting in complaints from other golfers which is not good. I wont go into ways to play quicker as most of us know this but if you can’t see the guys in front and the guys behind are constantly waiting then you probably need to play a bit faster.
Leading scores from today are below, the rubbish ones are on the app 😊
