JD Penny Shield
We played for our first Trophy of the Summer season, the JD Penny Shield, this morning on the Queens in very pleasant conditions. Dry fairways and bumpy greens made scoring tricky but most of the 31 competitors managed to complete their first medal card of the year. Most people managed to use the app correctly but the app itself seemed to struggle with the order of the leaderboard, no idea what happened there…..
Scores worthy of a mention were Tony Moran and David Watt with Nett 69’s and last weeks winner Eric “who cares” Lambert and Patrick Elsmie with 68’s. Best gross was one of our most recent members, Andrew Borg, who shot a level Par 68 (nett 71!) which could have been considerably better on smoother greens. A gross 71 from Tony Moran was also nice to see.
Leader on the scoreboard, but not eligible to win yet as he hasn’t got an official handicap, was another new member Kevin Beattie. With two decent cards under his belt now it wont be long before he is up and running.
This leaves Iain Aitchison who is well used to finished second, including losing last years player of the year in a countback to Frank, as our first trophy winner of the year with a nett 67. Well done Iain and I am sure Julie will find a nice spot in a barn for it 😊
Next Saturday we have a friendly stableford on the PGA followed by a Par event on the Kings on April 16th. You can enter both of these via the app.
The draws for the Summer Foursomes and Singles Knockouts were made by Frank yesterday and can be viewed on the app under the Comps, Knockout tab. I have also included them in PDF format attached, the singles are split into two. The Key dates to remember are:
Singles First Round to be played by May 15th
Singles Second Round to be played by June 5th
Foursomes First Round to be played by May 29th
Foursomes Second Round to be played by July 3rd
These dates may seem a long way off at the moment but it makes sense to get some dates in the diary asap before they get filled up. In the event that a tie is not played (or a result agreed) by the due date both players/teams will be scratched!
