Stroke Play Championship Round One Result Updated 27/5
27/5: Result and Report.
Round one of this years Stroke Play Championship was played this morning over the Queens in tricky conditions. A stiff breeze made choosing clubs difficult, the dry ground made judging bounces difficult, the pin positions made putting difficult and the cloudy then sunny conditions made picking the correct clothing very difficult - it’s the first time I have seen people wearing shorts and tee shirts playing with others wearing waterproof jackets and woolly hats!
A few people didn’t seem to think it was difficult. In the scratch section last years Club Champion George Stubbs shot a best of the day 70, his nett 69 also puts him into second place in the handicap section. Rory Bain returned from college in America to shoot 72 while Tony Moran and Neil Lock continued their good runs with gross 73’s.
The best nett score was a magnificent 66 by Sandy Grant who has obviously recovered well from his various injuries. Paul Lewis and Keith Stirling joined Tony on nett 70’s and Alan Black shot 71.
So its all to play for over the next two rounds.
