Charity Better Ball Stableford. PGA Yellow Tees, Saturday July 13th. Results.

The PGA was in fine condition for our Charity Fourball event this morning and there was no weather….. it wasn’t cold or warm, it wasn’t wet and it wasn’t windy so not sure how else to describe it? If you managed to keep the ball out of the rough a good score was possible and there were several good individual scores as you can see below: David McLeod with 39 points, Douglas Hamilton 38, and 37’s from Aidan O’Carroll and Jon Cooper (who shot one over par gross) were all worth a mention, but it wasn’t an individual event it was a better ball, a blind one….

The competition was incredibly close with only 4 points between the top 10 teams and only one point separating the top 4! The top individuals all made the top 6 but the team who “ham and egged” best were the team of Kevin Beattie and Paul Wadsworth. Despite barely making the individual leader board with 32 and 33 points respectively their best ball came to 43 points matching the total set by Aidan and Tariq. Paul managed 20 points on the back nine despite a blob and two one pointers. Miraculously Kevin just happened to make 7 points at these holes giving them a massive 25 points on the back nine to give them the victory on the better back nine.

Well done to everyone who took part and congratulations to Kevin and Paul for the win. They now get to decide which charity or charities the total amount raised will go to. I will update the total once confirmed but I believe we collected close to £1,000 and with Dun Whinny adding 31 x £20 we should have around £1600 so thank you to everyone.

PS: If you would like your individual score to count then please let Iain Aitchison know if you haven’t done so already.

PPS: Next up we have our July monthly medal on the Kings.

Sleeping swans…..

This Saturday is our annual Charity event and a chance for some fun after all the recent serious golf. We will play a stableford and everyone will keep a score as usual but you will be teamed up with someone else in a “blind” better ball team. The team with the best better ball score will be the winners and will be responsible for choosing which charity, or charities the money raised will go to.

The “entry fee” is a minimum of £20 per person which will be matched (up to £20 per person) by Dun Whinny. Please send your donation to the Dun Whinny bank account (83-47-00 00618426) using reference CH24 plus your name, or if you prefer to give cash just hand it to any council member. You don’t have to play in the event to make a donation.

You can enter on the app and due to the revised format there is no requirement for multiples of four and in the event there is an odd number of players the odd man out will be teamed with last week’s winner in order to obtain a team score - if this team wins he alone will decide the charity the money goes to.

This will be a non counting event for handicap purposes but if you would prefer your score to count then please let Iain Aitchison know as he has been practicing on the app and has kindly volunteered to make scores count if required.

The draw will appear on here as usual later in the week (now below) and your team mate will be revealed when you open your scorecard on the day. Any special requests, late entries or withdrawals please let me know as usual so I can revise the draw. Above all, have fun and trust that your partner will score well on all the holes you mess up :)

Draft draw as above but it WILL change so please check back.
