Club Championship and Millennium Qualifier One. Saturday June 8th, Kings White Tee Medal.

The first round of our Club Championship/Millennium qualifying was played this morning in testing conditions on the Kings. A stiff breeze, thick rough and slick greens made scoring tricky but the big talking point was the position of the pin at the first which brought back memories of the Gordon Lockhart a few years back when the pin on the 15th was on a slope halfway up the green! It was a bit like crazy golf without the windmill and clowns mouth but some people managed to make pars and it was the same for everyone. AJ has apologized on behalf on the Gleneagles greenstaff and hopefully this wont be allowed to happen again.

The fun at the first didn’t appear to influence the scores of the lower handicap players with virtually all of them finishing inside the top 10 and looking good to qualify for what is looking like a very competitive Championship. Standout scores were the gross 71 from defending champion David Logie, 76 and 81 from David McColgan and Andy Lothian despite a 9 and 11 at the first and another good showing from Club Captain Frank with an 82. Iain Aitchison and Alan Roe are also lying handy on 83’s if any of the guys above them falter.

In the nett section a tremendous round of 67 from Robert McLeary was the best of the day putting him in pole position for the Millennium. The other places are all up for grabs next week.

This weekend sees the first of two qualifying rounds for our Club Championship Knockout phase. The second round is on the Queens next Saturday, June 15th. The best 8 aggregate gross scores go through to the knockout stages which are played on the following dates:

Quarter Final - Friday June 21st 5pm. Semi Final - Saturday June 22nd 8am. Final Sunday June 23rd 8am.

The Top 8 aggregate NETT scores who have not qualified for the Club Championship qualify to participate in the Millennium Handicap Knockout event which runs in parallel to the Club Championship over the Queens course.

IMPORTANT: If you can’t make ALL of these dates please let me know so I can exclude you from the draws. You don’t have to play in both qualifiers and you can still enter these events even if you can’t make the KO dates.

The draw for this is below.

NOTE: Please be aware that the rough is VERY thick so please play a provisional ball if you miss a fairway.
