Seniors Trophy and Monthly Medal. Queens Yellow Tees. Saturday June 1st.
A magnificent golfing day over a course in great condition attracted 48 of Dun Whinny’s finest to do battle for multiple prizes. Low scores were expected and if Iain Aitchison had played 13-16 the way Colin Campbell played them (4 birdies) he would have shot a nett 58! Unfortunately he didn’t but it did show what could potentially be done.
There were two very good scores in the Gross Monthly Medal Section with David Logie pipping Queens specialist Neil Lock by one shot to add to his collection of Whisky Glasses. Neil missed a short putt of the 18th which cost him this, the nett prize and the Seniors trophy, his nett 65 was matched by Chris Tulips who had a better second 9. Chris wins the Nett Monthly Medal prize and the Seniors Prize - congratulation Chris and its great to see you finally hitting form again.
The last prize up for grabs was the Super Seniors prize which is being kindly donated by David Watt. After some close scrutiny of birth certificates Alan Black (yes he’s back!) was declared the first ever winner with his nett 68.
Well done to everyone who won a prize and bad luck to Neil, Mike Collier and Robert McLeary who almost won one. Leading scores are below and all scores can be seen on the Scottish Golf web site.
Next up its the Club Championship and Millennium Qualifiers!
This weekend is our Seniors Trophy and also a monthly medal. Anyone over 55 is eligible to compete in the Seniors event and anyone can play in the monthly medal. We also have a new trophy up for grabs as David Watt has kindly offered to donate a trophy for a Super Seniors Prize for the best nett score from someone who is 65 or over on the day of the competition.
Most will be pleased that this event is being played from the Yellow Tees on the Queens and with the weather looking promising we are expecting a big turnout so make sure you get you name in asap.
The draw is below but will change so please check back here later in the week.
History: The Macfarlane Quaich first awarded in 2009. From the early 1980’s there had been included in the Fixture List a Seniors Medal. This prize was generally a voucher or small gift purchased annually by the Club but in 2009 a trophy was presented to the Club by Bob Macfarlane a past Captain of Dun Whinny. The trophy takes the form of a substantial sized Quaich and was previously a golf trophy for the Beazer Homes organisation for whom Bob was once the Chairman. The trophy was originally used for a Beazer Homes golf competition in 1997 and 1998 and carries an inscription to that effect. Bob was keen to make this presentation as this was the one event in the calendar for which there was no formal prize. The trophy is for the best net score from the medal tees of the Queens course and the winner has to be aged 55 years or older on the date of the competition
