McKelvie Fourball Better Ball Results and Report.

and finally the report from David….

Apologies for the delay in publishing the results report. No excuse other than your reporters over consumption of alcohol at Saturdays dance which left his brain in a thick fog!

Following its weather cancellation two weeks ago the McKelvie Fourball was perhaps always destined to be difficult. A late squeezing of tee times on Friday by Gleneagles, an illogical app scorecard and photos of scorecards with missing holes all added up to a rather stressful lead into the Dance for the Golf Secretary and his not very able assistant.

The golf itself however shone through with a whole host of excellent scores. The top eight pairs were separated by a mere 4 points. The winners were the “Nutty Professor(s)” with a fantastic score of 44 points. It was good to see a rejuvenated Eric playing some excellent golf again ably assisted by Jonathan who with a net two at the 14th may well have sealed their win. Well played gentleman.

In second place were the “Swingers” Alan and Crawford with 43 points. Four pairs scored 42 points with the “Young Ones” Alistair C and Mark getting third on bih. Anyone wondering where the alternative names come from should read Eric’s post in the comments section below following the draw although don’t expect to understand them all!

Winter Competitions begin now so please check out the available competitions in my next post, coming soon.

Result as shown, report to follow. Ignore the handicap next to the parings!

IMPORTANT: Due to a “mistake” by Gleneagles our Tee times have changed - please check your new times below: we have also changed the format to stableford to help speed things along.

The rescheduled McKelvie Trophy is this Saturday, November 4th. This will be on the Kings with partners selected at random. David Logie is organising this, entry is via the app and the draw is below.

This comp will be a stableford from yellow tees and preferred lies will be in operation. Re scoring only one of the team members is required to put the scores into the app. If the other wants to keep a check via a scorecard then that is fine but is not a requirement.

Draw as above, please notify David Logie if you need to withdraw.

Trophy History: The George McKelvie Trophy first awarded in 2005. George McKelvie, a noted Consultant Surgeon, was a member of Dun Whinny for over 30 years during which time he served on Council and was Captain from 1987 to 1989. George was a keen golfer and serious competitor who railed against the Rules of Golf from time to time but was generally well liked by all the members. He took the function of being Captain seriously and under his guidance a number of changes were made to the running of the Club not least of which was the development of cyclical change to the Council by encouraging Council Members to stand down after two years thus allowing more members of the Club to become involved. His death is noted in the AGM minutes on 2005 along with a note of his bequest to the Club to purchase a trophy for a Better Ball Stroke Play Competition over the Queens Course from the front tees. Pairing were to be drawn among those members wishing to play and each partner was to receive an allowance of ¾ of full handicap (now 85% as per the current rules). The bequest purchased a beautiful silver trophy which is a modern bowl shaped trophy mounted on a circular timber plinth with silver band. This was a bespoke design by Graham Stewart of Dunblane a noted silversmith.

As the original event was cancelled this years event will be played as a stableford over the Kings.
