Gordon Lockhart Trophy

“Pea Soup” - Greeted the DW competitors

These were the scenes that greeted the participants in this years Gordon Lockhart trophy when we arrived for the first of two rounds. A 90 minute fog delay was not ideal but when it lifted conditions were perfect in the morning and HOT and sunny in the afternoon. The fog also managed to penetrate the brain of a few of the participants who signed up and “played” on the Queens in the morning on the app. They have wisely bribed me to remain unnamed 🍻

By far the best score on the morning from the new white (aka blue) tees on the Kings was David Logie with a magnificent gross 69 nett 68 which should have been even better. Mark Higham and Aidan O’Carroll were closest with nett 71’s, followed closely by Andy Lothian and Steward Lockhart with 72’s, defending champion George Stubbs and Ken Marshall with 73’s and Colin Campbell on 74.

After a shorter lunch than was planned we all stocked up with water, put shorts and sun cream on and ventured out for the hottest round of the year so far on the Queens. David Logie set the pace again carding a 72 nett 71 to set the target at 139 and retired to the A70 to follow proceedings via the app. This was short lived as it was evacuated due to a fire alarm and we all had to go home to watch the end.

George Stubbs was looking good after a level par front nine but fell away on the back to post 148. Mark, Aidan, Andy and Ken also fell by the wayside leaving only Colin and Stewart to mount a challenge. Colin was looking good but a 7 at 17 ruined his chances and Stewart, who had gone all in early by starting with an 8 also let it slip with a 7 at 16. Editors note: in order to guarantee victory you are supposed to START with a 7….. 🙄

Stewart and Colin finished joint runner up on 145 but no one came close to David’s 139 and he is the deserved champion, congratulations David ✅

Only 12 hardy souls managed to complete both rounds and their scores are below, well done all 👍 All the scores from both of todays rounds, including those who only entered one, can be seen on the app.

Next up we have our August Monthly Medal next Saturday on the Kings, the Roy Nicolson Stableford on the Queens on August 27th and our outing to the Castle Course a week later. Note: due to cancellations we now have a couple of spare spaces so if you fancy it then please contact Frank.

We are also still collecting names for our Mixed Fours on September 11th so please let me know or enter on the app if you would like to play.

Finally we have another Caption Competition, what is George telling Mike and Aidan? The winner gets the ball I lost at the 17th this afternoon but has to go into the bushes on the left to collect it….
