Autumn Meeting Results
Our Autumn Meeting took place in chilly but otherwise perfect conditions on the Kings this morning and the scoring reflected this. Best of the day was Douglas Laing with a nett 68, 3 shots clear of Colin Cambell, Tony Moran and Iain Aitchison. This wins him a Monthly Medal and a place in the upcoming medal final but as he didn’t play in the Spring or Summer Meetings he isn’t eligible for any other prize.
The Gross prize was unusually close with David Logie’s 74 just good enough to pip David McColgan and Tony Moran’s 75’s.
In the Duncrub Trophy (best two from three gross) David Logie defended his trophy with a total of 143 which was 5 shots ahead of Tony Moran who was 2 ahead of George Stubbs. Well done David!
Tony and David were also first and second in the Championship Cup (best 2 from 3 nett) with Tony winning with 140, 5 ahead of David. Other notable efforts were Mike Collier on 146, followed by Iain Aitchison, Colin Campbell and Stewart Lockhart on 147. Congratulations Tony!
The shock of the day was that Alan Black didn’t win, apparently he passed his normal good fortune onto Hibs who actually managed to win a game…. this slip up allowed Iain Aitchison to edge ahead in the ever changing Order of Merit race.
In other news Jim Crawford claimed a new Dun Whinny record by starting with 8 consecutive double bogies, if anyone can better this please let him know.
Next up we have a stableford on the Queens which is your last chance to qualify for the Medal Final which is on the Kings on Saturday October 7th. Anyone can enter this but only those who have won a competition during the season are eligible for the main prizes. Qualifiers to date are as per the list below:
The last of our three annual meetings takes place on the Kings this Saturday, September 23rd. The best two aggregate gross and nett scores from the three win two of our most prestigious trophies, see below. You can enter via the app and the draw will appear here on Thursday. You can also see the results from the Spring and Summer Meetings below:
The Championship Cup First Played in 1936. This is the original trophy of the Club and presented to Dun Whinny by John C Dougal one of the instigators and founders of the Club. The cup is a beautiful trophy on a stem supported by three silver golf clubs and mounted on a plinth with silver bands recording the names of all the winners. The Trophy was initially presented for stroke play competition in the Spring Meeting of 1936. At the AGM in 1937 it was decided that this trophy should be named the "Club Championship Trophy" and would be awarded to the player with the aggregate of the two best net scores in the Spring, Summer and Autumn meetings. The qualification conditions for this trophy have never been changed since that date. The first winner of the trophy was Dennis Blanc who scored 72-1 = 71
The Duncrub Trophy First Played in 1976. In 1976 Lord Rollo expressed a wish to provide a trophy to the Club for scratch competition. The Council decided that as there was already trophy for handicap competition (the Championship Cup) this trophy should be awarded for the two best scratch scores in the Spring, Summer and Autumn meetings each year. The trophy is an unusual silver plated inkstand decorated with crossed golf clubs and two silver balls as ink wells and the whole supported on three small silver balls. The names initially were inscribed on the inkstand but when no space was left an attractive hardwood stand was made on which the trophy is mounted. Lord Rollo was one of Dun Whinny's many characters and in his later years only played golf if he could be first off the tee in the morning and played mostly with Ian Donaldson. The first winner of this trophy was R M Robertson.
