Monthly Medal. PGA Yellow Tees. Saturday August 17th.
On paper our medal today should have been relatively easy, PGA, Yellow tees, summer…. but it proved to be a bit harder than expected. The weather was variable, some wind, some rain, some sun… the course was damp so playing quite long and the pin positions were challenging to say the least.
Only one player broke 80 and not surprisingly that was David Logie - his 78 earns him yet another Dun Whinny whisky tumbler to add to his already large collection. His nett 80 however was only good enough for joint 15th in the handicap section.
The early pace was set by Thomas McCulloch who continued his good form with a nett 78. In the group behind Billy McNeill was playing with Billy McNeill and one of them matched Tommy’s score. Behind them Kevin Dickson also shot 78 but playing partner Johnny Dickson raised the bar with a solid nett 73. Mike Page ended on 76 to move into second and Jonathan Fletcher was one shot back on 77.
It looked like another win for Johnny but then Ken Swa managed to match his score. Off to countback we went and as Ken had a slightly better back nine he is our winner. Well done Ken (and David) and unlucky Johnny.
Next week should definitely be easier, we are playing for the Roy Nicolson Salver, in a stableford, on the Queens, from the Yellow Tees - it doesn’t get any easier than that so get your entries in fast to reserve your spot.
This weeks competition should hopefully be a bit easier than last Saturday’s windy 36 hole white tee challenge - it’s a Monthly Medal from the Yellows…. Tee times start from 7.30 and you can enter on the app as usual. The draw is below:
