Par Competition
Today’s Par event on the Kings almost met the same fate as the original one which was cancelled due to fog in April. Fortunately the fog cleared just in time and the 17 players who hung around were rewarded with decent weather, no wind and a course which wasn’t as wet as expected. It might actually have been “easy” if it wasn’t for the high n dry pin positions….
First out of the blocks in the revamped draw Mike Page and Neil Lock set the early pace with both making late birdies to set a clubhouse target of 2 down. Just behind them David McLeod was looking good for most of the round but a poor finish saw him slip back to 2 over as well. He was joined on this mark by Eric Lambert and Crawford Gray who both finished strongly and for a short time we had a nine way tie for the lead!
Even after a few, including myself (with five 3 putts in the final 7 holes…!) dropped off the pace it still looked like it would go to a countback but Daley Smith had other ideas. He had been at the top of the leaderboard all day but had lost 4 holes in a row, including a 4 putt at the 14th!, to go from 2 up to 2 down with 2 to play. A pair of 5’s to finish steadied the ship, took him back to one down and secured a one hole victory over Mike, Neil, Eric, David and Crawford. Congratulations Daley.
Next up our final counting competition of the year is a stableford on the Queens, we are then into our winter schedule. Talking of which we already have 9 teams registered for the Winter Fourball knockout, namely:
Logie & Crockart (defending), Beattie & Stirling (Dream team 1), Black & Hamilton (foursomes winners), the two Ken’s Marshall & Swa, Penman & Quinn (the invisibles), Aitchison & Colburn (dos somberos), Campbell & Lockhart (steady eddies), Lambert & Kinnear (wind ups) and Sexton & Lovelock (potentials). If you fancy joining in then you can enter under the Winter 4BBB entry competition, completed teams will then move into the main event which can be seen under the Knockout tab. Entries close of November 3rd and the draw will take place shortly before the Dance on November 5th.
