Princes Pot
Today we played the second and final round of the Princes Pot in shirt sleeves on a beautiful spring day on the PGA. With the leaders going out at the end of the field it was all about setting a target and several people did just that:
Out first Andrew Watson had a poor first nine but 20 points coming back gave him 33 points to add to his first round 34 and a decent total of 67. Next to make a move were Ken Marshall and Bill Sexton. Both had 31 points from round one so a really good score was required. Ken finished poorly but managed 38 while Bill finished with a nett eagle to reach 37. A new target of 69 was set.
George Watterson started with 34 and was looking good on 30 points with 3 holes left but couldn’t finish it off. Also starting on 34 Jason Wilding added another 33 to finish on a very respectable 67 points.
The final group now knew what was required. David Mitchell couldn’t reproduce his form from round one and finished on 64 points. This left first round leader Mark Higham and Mike Collier, Mark was looking good but a 7 at the final hole left him on 30 and tied for the lead on 69, but lying second with a poorer second round.
Mike, with 37 points from round one and 29 after 14 holes in round two, only needed 4 points from the final four holes for victory. Unfortunately he had only added two more when he stood on the 18th tee and was still one behind the target of 69. A bogey secured the required two points and secured a well deserved victory over the two rounds. Congratulations Mike!
Next week is our Jubilee Invitation Day so it’s a well earned rest for me and over to Frank to keep you up to date
