Our annual mixed foursomes event, where a Dun Whinny member teams up with a Dunbracken member, took place this afternoon on the Queens. The course was in magnificent condition and the weather, at least to start with, was perfect although a few drops of rain did fall on the later starters.
Twelve couples took part and most also stayed for the after match meal and prize giving in the Dormy.
First out of the blocks, defending champion and Dunbracken Captain Jacky Farrell returned a commendable 33 points with her new partner Alan Penman, pictured here playing from the lake at the 13th…..
Playing partners Ann and Ken Marshall went slightly better setting a new target of 37 points despite lots of missed putts and 3 lost balls, mostly my fault to be fair….. oh what might have been….
Steve and Janice Tague were next to have a go scoring 8 points in the final 3 holes and also scored 33. This left Fran Stirk and Jonathan Fletcher, neither of whom had ever won anything apparently, as the only realistic challengers.
A target of 9 points in the last 3 holes seemed unlikely but a par nett birdie and a bogey nett par meant that a par nett eagle at the difficult 18th was required to win. After driving in trouble, a hack out followed by a solid shot onto the green, the putt for victory dropped into the hole and our Champions were crowned. Well done both.
Congratulations also to David McLeod who won the gents nearest the pin at the second and to Janice Tague who won the ladies version at the 13th.
Big thanks to everyone for taking part and many thanks to Jacky for her help in organising the event and we all wish her good luck in her move to Portugal. Lastly, this seemed appropriate, see you all next year.
